Geo-environmental assessment

Many UK sites have been contaminated by former or current uses. Finding it and assessing the risk is key to development.

From Phase 1 to Phase 2

The identification of ground and groundwater contamination, and assessment of risks to end-users and other receptors, are key issues which can significantly affect development.

We use the results of the Phase 1 Desk Study to design a site-specific Phase 2 intrusive investigation that targets potential sources and lets us assess the level of contamination present.

Target the sources

Contamination can come from uses both within and remote from the site. The Phase 2 design follows the desk study findings.

Assess against guidance

Assessments use the Environment Agency’s 2020 ‘Land contamination: risk management’ framework with regulatory guidelines such as DEFRA Soil Guidance Values (SGV) and the LQM/CIEH Generic Assessment Criteria (GAC).

Advise and validate

We advise whether remedial measures are required and provide a modified Conceptual Site Model (CSM) reflecting the Phase 2 results.

Beyond the assessment

We can complete detailed risk assessments, with advice on remedial options, re-use of materials on site and validation reports.
